Heat pumps
Comfort from the energy around us
Our environment is full of energy — even at sub-zero temperatures. Heat pumps extract that stored solar energy and raise it to a useful temperature, using the same proven principle as your fridge.
How it works
The heat pump cycle
Select each stage to follow the refrigerant around the system.
Energy from the outside air transfers to liquid refrigerant in the evaporator, turning it into a gas.
Efficiency
3–4 units of heat for every unit of electricity
Coefficient of Performance (CoP) depends on the outside temperature and the heating system. It can reach 4.5+ in season, while a well-designed system averages above 3 across the year.

Is a heat pump right for my home?
- Enough space for a suitable outdoor unit
- Good insulation or a plan to improve it
- Radiators or underfloor heating sized for lower temperatures
- A complete room-by-room heat-loss calculation
- A design based on your home, not a rule of thumb
